Joy Lopez teaches 6th, 7th and 8th grade Science, Pre-algebra and 6th grade Bible. She is a graduate of Vanguard University. She holds a California Professional Clear Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential. She and her husband were childrens’ pastors in Orange County before moving back to San Diego in 2006. Joy holds a special part in the history of TCS as she was in the first Kindergarten class at TCS. She is also the first student to graduate (1987) and then return to teach at the school. Several of her teachers are still at Trinity. Her former teachers have now become her mentors and colleagues! Mrs. Lopez has two children who attend Trinity. She enjoys the “aha” moments with her students when they are trying to learn something new.
Julie Fontenot is our middle school history and 8th grade homeroom teacher. She has a B.S. degree in Criminal Justice from State University College of New York at Brockport and started her career as a Youth Development Counselor in a residential treatment center for delinquent adolescence. After moving to California in 1982, she attended National University, received a Clear California Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential and has been teaching for over 20 years in a variety of grade levels from primary through middle school. She most enjoys interacting with students and seeing the uninterested students transform to the interested and even become enthusiastic about learning. Mrs. Fontenot is married and has 8 children (Yours, Mine and Ours, 7 grown and 1 at home). They have two daughters who graduated from Trinity. She and her husband attend Foothills Christian Church.
Grace VanNortwick is the 7th grade homeroom teacher and teaches 6th-8th English, 7th Bible and 6th Math. She is a graduate of Briercrest Bible College and San Diego Christian College. She received her multiple-subject credential at San Diego Christian College. She taught music, 3rd grade and 5th/6th grade Math at Mira Mesa Christian School and was a substitute teacher in the Lemon Grove School District and Mountain Empire School District. Mrs. VanNortwick and her husband Marlin moved to San Diego from Canada in the 1983 to be missionaries with World Impact in Southeast San Diego. After ten years they were involved in church ministry at Covenant Presbyterian Church in North Park; Mr. VanNortwick as the youth pastor and Mrs. VanNortwick as the Music Minister. Mr. VanNortwick is the Weekend Manager at Indian Hills Bible Camp. They have four children: Nate (26) is married and lives in Oakland, CA, Josh is also married and teaches History at TCS middle-school! Luke is a music major at San Diego Christian College, and CC is a 10th grader at Foothills Christian High School. Mrs. VanNortwick loves working at TCS where she can do the thing she loves best- teaching! Even better, she can prepare students for an everlasting life of honoring the Lord Jesus.
